History
Rockford City Market opened for the first season on June 11, 2010, welcoming nearly 1,000 visitors including families, young professionals, kids and seniors.
Since that day the market has continued to grow, welcoming almost 20,000 people during the 2010 season and 40,000 during the 2011 season.
The market takes place 3 – 7 p.m. every Friday from June - October along Water Street between State and Jefferson Streets in downtown Rockford.
It includes local growers and vendors who sell natural products, like vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, cheeses, flowers, herbs, baked goods, wine and healthy snacks, as well as artisans and vendors with unique offerings. Most vendors and performers come from a 150-mile radius, ensuring locally grown produce and unique retail items.
When you're done shopping, relax on the terrace overlooking the market and enjoy live music.
Demonstrations and kids activites ensure a fun and interactive learning environment.
During the peak summer months the market nearly 40 different vendors welcomed crowds nearing 2,000 patrons a week.
Rockford City Market is a collaborative effort of several agencies, including Rock River Development Partnership, River District Association, the City of Rockford, On the Waterfront, Inc. and Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
